We rely on animal lovers just like you to help us with our lifesaving programs. Each year, hundreds of your neighbors donate their time and talent to help us help the animals and they get tremendous personal satisfaction from doing so. We encourage you to join us and become a lifesaving volunteer.
Our volunteers tell us they love being a part of the HSOC family. Our appreciative, friendly staff will provide you with all the training you require to succeed as an animal rescue volunteer. And the animals will provide you with unconditional love every step of your journey.
If you would like to Volunteer, please click the link and fill out the application. Our Volunteer Coordinator will contact you about our next orientation date. Even if you only have a couple of hours a week we have an opportunity for you.
All volunteers over 16 years old can volunteer without a parent and under 16 years old must volunteer with a parent. We do try to find positions for students needing Beta hours but only under these guidelines.
Foster Care is an important network of foster homes that provide temporary housing and care for kittens, cats, puppies and dogs. Volunteers provide love, fun, and basic needs for animals that would do best in a home environment. If you would like to join our Foster Care Program, submit the short application or Download the Application, fill it out and return to us and someone will contact you. You will be changing a pets life by giving them a loving start on their way to a forever home.
Events are an important part of a non profit. They are essential to the organizations programs. Volunteers can help at events, large or small, in a variety of ways. There are many positions that go into a successful fundraiser. Our volunteer coordinator can help find the type of positions that would be a good fit for you. Many volunteers have talents that are extremely helpful to the fundraising and organization of HSOC.
Some pets that come into our rescue program simply carry a bit more "baggage" than others. They may have chronic health problems which might require an unusual amount of care, expense, they may be disabled, or they may be elderly. Foster homes open their hearts and homes to these special friends. We continue to provide veterinary care for these animals and the foster families provide the love and home.
Volunteers are trained to be part of an amazingly efficient Spay/neuter clinic team. There are a variety of positions that require a volunteer: Cat recovery, Dog recovery, Sterilization of surgical instruments, Patient care, Clinic prep and post cleaning and more. You must be atleast 18 yrs of age to volunteer for Clinics.
Although most of our dogs are housed at the Kentucky State Reformatory through our KSR Camp K-9 program, we do on occasion house dogs at the facility that need walking and care.
Volunteers are trained in cleaning procedures to keep the cat living spaces clean and comfortable for our feline friends at the facility. They also groom and socialize them to help them on their way to successful adoptions.
